Amritsar Police brief the media after nearly 15 schools receive bomb threat emails, prompting a district-wide security alert and immediate investigation.
Bomb Threat Emails Sent to Nearly 15 Amritsar school bomb threat.
Amritsar, one of Punjab’s most prominent and peaceful cities, woke up to panic and heightened tension on Tuesday after nearly 15 schools across the district reportedly received bomb threat emails. The alarming messages triggered immediate action from the district administration, leading to large-scale security deployments, evacuations, and sweeping investigations across both urban and rural areas.
According to information shared by the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, several schools received a suspicious email claiming that explosive devices had been planted on their premises. Although the authenticity of the threats remains unconfirmed, the administration is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.
Authorities Respond Swiftly
Speaking to the media, the Police Commissioner said that an emergency response mechanism was activated the moment the schools reported the emails.
To ensure safety and maintain order:
- Gazetted officers were deployed to every affected school
- Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams carried out extensive inspections
- Local police sealed off surrounding areas and monitored entry points
- Students and staff were evacuated as a precautionary measure
“Safety of children is our highest priority,” the Commissioner stated. “We are conducting detailed checks in all schools mentioned in the email. At present, no suspicious object has been found, but the investigation will continue until all sites are fully cleared.”
Schools in Both City and Rural Belt Targeted
What has intensified concern is that the threatening emails were not limited to schools in central Amritsar. Institutions in the rural belt also reported receiving the same warning, suggesting a deliberate attempt to create widespread fear.
Administrators from multiple schools confirmed that they received the identical message within a short time frame. Many of these schools immediately alerted the police, who reached the locations within minutes.
Mass Panic Among Students and Parents
The sudden arrival of police teams and the evacuation process caused understandable panic among students, teachers, and parents. Several parents rushed to school campuses after receiving distress-filled calls from their children.
One parent described the experience:
“It felt like something terrible was about to happen. Even though it turned out to be a threat email, the fear was real. I’m grateful that the authorities reacted so quickly.”
Schools helped maintain calm by guiding students to designated safe zones and ensuring quick communication with families.
Investigations Point to Possible Hoax, But Authorities Staying Cautious
Early indications suggest the possibility that this may be a hoax email, similar to recent incidents reported in other Indian cities where schools received bogus threat messages traced back to foreign servers or spoofed accounts.
However, senior police officials made it clear that no conclusion will be drawn until cyber teams complete their analysis.
The cyber crime unit is currently:
- Tracing the origin of the email
- Examining server logs and IP addresses
- Coordinating with central agencies if needed
- Checking for patterns similar to previous threat hoaxes
Officials believe the email may have been designed to create disruption, fear, and confusion rather than to execute an actual attack.
Administration Urges Calm but Reiterates Vigilance
While no explosives or harmful materials have been found in any school so far, the administration has urged the public not to spread rumors or panic. Loudspeakers, social media channels, and official police pages are being used to circulate verified updates.
The Police Commissioner appealed to the community:
“We request parents and citizens to remain calm. Do not share unverified messages. Trust only official information. Our teams are working round the clock to ensure everyone’s safety.”
Schools are expected to resume operations once they receive clearance from security officials.
A Reminder of Growing Security Challenges
This incident has once again highlighted the growing cyber-related security threats faced by educational institutions across India. As schools become digitally connected, they have also become more vulnerable to online intimidation and misinformation campaigns.
Authorities are now working on strengthening digital monitoring systems and establishing faster verification channels for emergency communication.
