Zila Parishad and Block Samiti Elections 2025: Punjab State Election Commission allows voters to cast votes using alternative ID documents.
Zila Parishad and Block Samiti Elections 2025: Voters Allowed to Cast Votes Without Voter ID Card
In a significant move aimed at ensuring maximum voter participation, the Punjab State Election Commission has announced that voters will be allowed to cast their votes in the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti Elections 2025 even if they do not possess their Voter Photo Identity Card (EPIC). To facilitate this, the Commission has released a list of alternative identification documents that will be accepted at polling stations.
Sharing this information, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Preeti Yadav stated that the decision has been taken to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of their democratic right due to the absence of a voter ID card. She emphasized that the Election Commission is committed to conducting free, fair, and inclusive elections across the state.
Alternative Identity Documents Permitted
According to Dr. Preeti Yadav, the Punjab State Election Commission has approved several government-issued identity documents that voters can use to establish their identity at polling booths. These alternative documents will help voters who have misplaced their voter ID cards or have not yet received them to still participate in the electoral process.
Polling officials will verify the identity of voters based on these approved documents before allowing them to cast their votes. The verification process will follow strict guidelines to maintain transparency and prevent any misuse.
Ensuring Maximum Voter Participation
The district election officer highlighted that local body elections play a crucial role in strengthening grassroots democracy. Zila Parishads and Block Samitis are directly involved in planning and implementing development projects at the rural level. Therefore, public participation in these elections is essential for effective local governance.
Dr. Yadav urged all eligible voters to come forward and exercise their franchise, stating that every vote contributes to shaping the future of local administration and development. She also appealed to first-time voters and senior citizens to actively take part in the elections.
Election Preparations and Arrangements
The district administration has completed all necessary preparations to conduct the elections smoothly. Adequate arrangements have been made at polling stations to ensure voter convenience. These include basic amenities such as drinking water, seating arrangements, proper lighting, and ramps for persons with disabilities and elderly voters.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened to ensure peaceful polling. Election personnel and security forces will be deployed at sensitive and vulnerable polling stations to maintain law and order throughout the voting process.
Voter Awareness and Assistance
To raise awareness, the Election Commission has launched voter education campaigns across districts, informing citizens about polling dates, voting procedures, and accepted identity documents. Help desks and helpline numbers have been set up to assist voters with queries related to voter lists, polling stations, and identification requirements.
Dr. Preeti Yadav advised voters to check their names in the electoral rolls in advance and familiarize themselves with their designated polling stations to avoid any inconvenience on polling day.
Commitment to Fair and Transparent Elections
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to transparency, the district election officer stated that strict instructions have been issued to polling staff to adhere to election rules and guidelines. Any violation of the Model Code of Conduct will be dealt with firmly.
She concluded by saying that the administration’s objective is to ensure that every eligible voter gets an equal opportunity to vote, thereby strengthening democratic values at the grassroots level.
The Zila Parishad and Block Samiti Elections 2025 are expected to witness active participation, with the Election Commission’s voter-friendly measures playing a key role in enhancing turnout.
