Fog Forces Train Timetable Change: Indian Railways Revises Schedule Due to Low Visibility
Indian Railways Reschedules Multiple Trains as Dense Fog Hits North India.
Ferozepur, December 9, 2025:
With dense fog settling across large parts of North India, the Railway Department has issued a major update, announcing changes to the timetable of several important trains. The decision has been taken to ensure passenger safety as visibility continues to drop sharply in the early morning and late evening hours. According to officials, the revised timings will remain effective until weather conditions improve.
The Railway Department has stated that the adjustments are necessary because dense fog not only affects train visibility but also disrupts signal recognition, track clearance, and overall traffic movement. Delays and rescheduling in winter are common in the northern zone, and this year’s early fog has forced the authorities to take precautionary measures sooner than expected.
Among the trains that have been rescheduled are some major long-distance and inter-state services, such as the Chheharta–Saharsa Amrit Bharat Express, Saharanpur–Moradabad MEMU, Dehradun–Amritsar Express, Darbhanga–Jalandhar City Antyodaya Express, Gorakhpur–Amritsar Superfast Express, Kanpur Central–Jammu Tawi Express, and the Tatanagar–Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express.
As per the official notification, the Chheharta–Saharsa Amrit Bharat Express will now depart from Saharanpur at 5:05 am, and its arrival at Roorkee has been shifted to 6:01 am instead of the earlier 5:52 am, resulting in a slight but crucial adjustment for fog-affected routes. The change is aimed at preventing delays during peak fog hours when visibility is extremely low.
The Saharanpur–Moradabad MEMU has also undergone a timing revision. This train will now depart from Saharanpur at 4:05 pm, which is 20 minutes earlier than its old schedule of 4:25 pm, and will reach Moradabad at 9:40 am. Officials said that these changes are part of a larger safety plan to better manage evening congestion during fog season.
Similarly, the Dehradun–Amritsar Express will now start from Lakshar Junction at 11:05 pm, slightly later than its previous departure time of 11:00 pm. The train is expected to reach Saharanpur at 12:15 pm, five minutes later than the earlier scheduled 12:10 pm. Although these adjustments appear minor, railway officials explained that even a five-minute difference can improve operational smoothness when visibility is uncertain.
One of the important long-distance services, the Darbhanga–Jalandhar City Antyodaya Express, has also seen a change in timing. It will now depart from Sitapur Junction at 4:48 pm, instead of the previous time of 4:18 pm. The train’s departure from Saharanpur Junction has been shifted to 12:40 pm instead of the earlier 12:35 midnight, making it easier for staff to manage movement during night fog conditions.
The Gorakhpur–Amritsar Superfast Express will depart from Sitapur at 4:48 pm, similar to the change made for the Antyodaya Express, and its departure from Saharanpur is now 12:40 pm instead of the old timing of 12:35 am. Both trains frequently pass through high-fog zones, and the revised schedule is expected to improve punctuality.
The Kanpur Central–Jammu Tawi Express will now leave Shahjahanpur at 6:25 pm, revised from its earlier time of 6:15 pm. Its Saharanpur departure time has also been updated to 12:40 pm instead of 12:35 pm, ensuring smoother coordination with other fog-affected trains.
The Tatanagar–Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express has been rescheduled as well. It will now depart from Bareilly at 7:22 pm instead of 7:12 pm, and will leave Saharanpur at 12:40 pm instead of 12:35 pm.
Railway officials have urged passengers to check the latest timetable before starting their journey. They also advised travelers to arrive early at stations, carry warm clothing due to the severe cold wave, and stay updated through railway helplines, official apps, and announcements.
As fog continues to intensify across North India, more adjustments may be announced over the coming days. Passengers have been requested to cooperate with the revised schedule, as these changes have been implemented purely for safety and smooth operation.
