Indian Railways introduces 20 new train services, including Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat Express, to boost nationwide connectivity from February 1, 2026.
Indian Railways to Launch 20 New Train Services from February 1, 2026 to Boost Nationwide Connectivity
Indian Railways has announced the launch of 20 new train services across the country, set to begin operations from February 1, 2026. The expansion is aimed at strengthening connectivity between major cities and regional hubs while easing passenger pressure during peak travel periods, especially in the run-up to holidays and festival seasons.
The new services will include a mix of Amrit Bharat Express, Vande Bharat trains, passenger services, and special long-distance trains. This initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on modernising railway infrastructure and providing faster, safer, and more affordable travel options for millions of passengers.
Railway officials said the move is part of a broader strategy to improve mobility and reduce overcrowding on existing routes.
“The introduction of these new trains will significantly improve connectivity across important corridors and provide more choices to passengers. It will also help manage heavy travel demand during festive and peak seasons,” a senior railway official said.
Mix of Modern and Affordable Trains
Among the newly announced services are modern semi-high-speed trains such as Vande Bharat Express, which are known for their enhanced comfort, faster journey times, and improved safety features. These trains are expected to operate on busy routes linking major metropolitan cities and business centres.
In addition, Amrit Bharat Express trains will be introduced on select long-distance routes to offer affordable travel with upgraded facilities for middle-income and budget travellers. These trains are designed to improve passenger comfort while keeping ticket prices economical.
Passenger and special trains will also be added to serve regional routes and areas that experience heavy footfall during festival seasons. This combination ensures that both daily commuters and long-distance travellers benefit from the expansion.
Improved Connectivity Across Key Corridors
The 20 new train services will enhance connectivity across important railway corridors, including routes linking northern, western, southern, and eastern regions of India. Officials stated that the new services would help reduce travel time, improve schedule reliability, and decongest existing trains that often run at full capacity.
Routes connecting major pilgrimage centres, tourist destinations, and commercial hubs are expected to see the most benefit. The expansion is also likely to support tourism growth and improve access to smaller cities and towns that depend heavily on rail transport.
Railway planners have identified high-demand sectors where passenger waiting lists remain long throughout the year. The introduction of new trains on these routes is expected to ease booking pressure and provide more seat availability.
Ticket Booking Now Open
Tickets for the newly launched services are already available for booking through the official IRCTC website and mobile application. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys early and secure reservations ahead of the official start date of operations.
The Railways has advised travellers to regularly check schedules and routes as details for each new service are gradually being uploaded to the booking platform. Special concessions and standard fare structures will apply according to existing railway rules.
Officials added that the online booking system has been strengthened to handle increased traffic as demand for new services grows closer to the launch date.
Focus on Passenger Comfort and Safety
The new trains will be equipped with improved seating, modern coaches, better sanitation facilities, and enhanced onboard services. Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains will feature automatic doors, improved suspension systems, and energy-efficient operations.
Safety measures such as upgraded signalling systems, real-time monitoring, and better track maintenance have also been prioritised. The Railways aims to ensure that the expansion does not compromise service quality while accommodating higher passenger volumes.
Supporting Economic and Social Mobility
The introduction of 20 new train services is expected to have a positive impact on economic activity by improving access to markets, workplaces, and educational institutions. Faster and more reliable rail connections can help reduce travel costs and boost productivity.
For millions of Indians who rely on trains as their primary mode of transport, the new services promise greater convenience and flexibility.
With operations set to begin from February 1, 2026, Indian Railways’ latest expansion marks another step toward building a more modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly railway network for the future.
