Freezing temperatures spread across much of the United States as a powerful cold front impacts major cities.
Cold Temperatures Spread Across the United States as Winter Conditions Intensify
A widespread cold wave is impacting large parts of the United States, according to the latest United States weather update and national radar data. Several major cities across the Northeast and Midwest are experiencing freezing and sub-freezing temperatures, raising concerns about travel disruptions, icy roads, and public safety.
In the Northeastern United States, winter conditions remain severe. Cities including Boston (-4°C), New York (-4°C), Manhattan (-4°C), Brooklyn (-5°C), Queens (-4°C), and The Bronx (-5°C) are seeing persistent cold that is well below seasonal averages. Philadelphia (-5°C) and Washington, D.C. (-2°C) are also reporting freezing temperatures, with local authorities urging residents to limit outdoor exposure and prepare for slippery conditions.
The Midwest is facing some of the coldest readings nationwide. Chicago (-7°C) and Columbus (-7°C) are experiencing intense cold, with wind chill values making temperatures feel even lower. Meteorologists warn that prolonged exposure could lead to frostbite, particularly during early morning and nighttime hours.
Meanwhile, parts of the Southern United States are experiencing cooler but more moderate weather. Atlanta (1°C) remains just above freezing, while Austin, Dallas, Houston (7°C) and San Antonio (8°C) report relatively stable winter conditions. Denver (7°C) is also seeing manageable temperatures despite colder air moving through the region.
In contrast, the Western United States continues to see milder weather. Phoenix (16°C) recorded the highest temperature among major cities, followed by Los Angeles (14°C) and San Diego (14°C). San Jose (9°C) also remains significantly warmer compared to eastern regions.
According to the United States weather radar, cold air masses are expected to persist across central and eastern regions in the coming days. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local forecasts, follow safety advisories, and monitor updates as weather conditions evolve.
